President & CEO at RBC

Given recent acts of racism and violence against the Black community, I feel it’s important to share this message from our U.S. colleagues in Minneapolis. I’m personally outraged at the senseless and tragic deaths in the U.S., which are clearly symptomatic of ongoing racial discrimination and injustice, and I know we are not immune to it in Canada. We must work harder to stop continued and systemic anti-Black racism, and the hate and discrimination that persists online in social media echo chambers. Diversity and inclusion is a core value at RBC and we are committed to making our workplaces, culture and communities both inclusive and welcoming for all. We need to continue on this journey every day, because in this divisive age, respect and empathy matters more than ever. Speaking up for inclusion and having uncomfortable conversations must happen year-round. But these are the moments when creating dialogue and having those conversations together – with greater empathy and understanding – is so important. It’s also the time to take action. As a first step, our colleagues in Minneapolis will be donating $250,000 to help communities and businesses rebuild. And as an organization, we’re committed to taking more meaningful action to support our communities and combat racism.

We won't have justice or change until we stand together to do what's right. In the wake of a dark week for Minneapolis and around the world, I wanted to share my thoughts on what we are saying, and doing, at RBC Wealth Management to support our employees and stand with the communities that have been impacted in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.

Thank you Dave for being a fearless leader. Your message, really shows us how you feel regarding systemic racism and that everyone should be treated equal. Other organizations or leaders have avoided this topic, but you didn’t waste anytime tackling these on-going issues and that’s why I am very proud to be apart of RBC!

Thank you for this Dave & others within the organization and around the world. This, despite the horrible circumstances, COULD be what we need to make solid and lasting changes, that are desperately needed in society.

Thank you Dave for championing diversity and inclusion not just today when the world is waking up but throughout the year. Change happens over time and while we are not where we want to be, there is definite progress, and strategic imperatives that RBC has been working on to move the dial. Anti-black racism is real and painful, and recent, senseless death of George Floyd has illuminated what many has burried or turned a blind eye to because it's easier to look away and pretend it doesn't exist. I applaud you Dave for taking a stand and encourage all leaders in positions of influence to make substantive change. One pebble in a pond makes a ripple, many pepples/rocks will make a wave - a wave of change that not just benefits blacks but benefits the collective human race. We are diminished as a society by not taking advantage of the gifts that everyone of all races and creeds have to offer. Wishing you well and wishing us all a renewed focus to be better, to do better.

I’m both sad and outraged by the senseless tragedy of George Floyd and others in the U.S. We must take this opportunity to listen and learn, to foster inclusion and equality, and ensure no one is left behind. We can do better.

Strong CEO leadership critical in these times - I’m proud to have an association with this one. These issues need strong unequivocal voices throughout the community providing relentless focus.
